Lightweight Wheelchairs

When wheelchairs need to be transported their weight is a crucial factor. Putting a wheelchair in a car trunk is a challenging movement for the lifter's back. There are many excellent choices to lighten the load and protect yourself while still giving the user a supportive wheelchair. If the user pushes themselves with the back wheels, self-propelled, choose the style with the two big back wheels. However, if the only movement comes from a companion pushing the chair, you can select a chair with smaller back wheels and save a considerable amount of weight. We carry a chair that has both capabilities built in to make it two chairs in one (see the Drive Pollywog). Some of these lightweight chairs are designed for all day use and others are best for transporting for a shorter duration.
